HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

102!

My grandma turns 102 today.

Almost nine years ago, she had a health scare and we weren't sure how much longer she'd have. Everyone made it a point to visit with her that year. She liked that just fine and continued being her cat-loving self, and I've managed to see her again at least yearly since then. In January 2020 (just after I was there for my mom's birthday party), she broke her hip and had hip replacement surgery and recovered surprisingly well. Amazingly, she made it through the pandemic without ever testing positive for Covid. We had a fun party for her 100th and she enjoyed all the great-grandkids and eating her cake. I didn't make it to WA in 2022 but was there at the start of 2023 and had a nice visit with her. Less than two weeks ago, she fell and broke her ankle. She's at a skilled nursing facility now and doing pretty well. I'm pretty sure she's invincible. :)

Here's a picture of the two of us back in January of this year...

And here's one from 1979ish, just because...

Since it's hard to shop for someone who's 102, I just sent her candy. She has quite the sweet tooth (and all her own teeth still!). Hoping she has a fabulous birthday!
