HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

OUT ON A LIMB, week 3...

This week’s OUT ON A LIMB challenge is a little bit different. I’ve been thinking about it lately and really want to start some new traditions to honor my dad…ways my family and I can celebrate his life even when we can’t all be together. This Christmas I plan to select a star/ornament from a giving tree that matches up with a man, possibly a father. I can then shop for him in the same manner that I’d shop for my dad. The giving tree thing is something I’ve done in the past and isn’t some grand new idea, but I like the thought of doing it with this new intention. I think my dad would appreciate the gesture, as he was a truly self-less soul. I’m going to talk to my siblings and mom about doing the same thing…starting this new tradition with me.

So. This week’s challenge is to think of some sort of tradition YOU can start in honor of a loved one. It doesn’t have to revolve around Christmas at all, though it might be an easier starting point. Please, too, would you mind sharing your ideas with me? If you don’t want to post a public comment here, feel free to email me privately. Thank you!

HOME.

Dude. Micah actually did a little happy dance when we arrived in the Denver airport. (Seriously. So adorable...he kept saying "bye, airport" and "YAY!" whilst Asher would proclaim, "Hello, home!" Think they were glad to be home?) Anyhoo. Yes. We're home after being gone for a week. I'll be unpacking and going through the inboxes tonight...trying to get things in order as we enter the countdown to Christmas. Heaps of pictures to go through (didn't *quite* make it to 1000, but it was close)...be patient with me. :)

Oh, and, before I forget, big ol' thanks to all for the congrats on the CK Dream Team...very cool stuff indeed and I'm uber excited about the coming year. I truly am stoked about the new look and all the cool stuff coming up. Speaking of which, have you seen one of CK's newest publications: Hip, Handmade Gifts? I've only had a chance to breeze through it so far but am already plotting gift ideas!!

Okay, I really should go unpack, if only so I can find my toothbrush. ;) I'll be back tomorrow with another OUT ON A LIMB challenge...

Checking in...

Hi all. Just checking in from the road. Yes, we're still visiting family and friends...having a bit of an extended Thanksgiving holiday and loving it. It's the first time we've been back for Thanksgiving in about 8 years. So this is good. :) I've taken well over 500 pictures so far and can't wait to get home and go through them all.

That was pretty much it. Just wanted to say "hey" and let you know I haven't forgotten my blog or anything. Hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving, too! (and can you believe that there's less than a month till Christmas?!)

Hey...any good Christmas traditions to share?

Scroll down for Out on a Limb, week 2...

Sorry. I composed part of the message before I left home so that I could upload the layout and all...turns out that I can't figure out how to move the entry to the now correct place in the order. :)

Micah funny

Just another quick bout of procrastination. Was just giving the boys their daily multi-vitamins. They come in animal shapes and Micah prefers the elephants. As I handed him his vitamin today, he examined it and proclaimed "elephant oink-oink!" Thinking about it, I suppose hippopotamuses *do* look like pig elephants...strange.
