HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Six.

Help! My baby turns SIX today. SIX! (Sniff.)

We have no big plans...like with Asher's birthday, we celebrated in WA last month with extended family and will just have a small family dealio here today, as Micah also opted for a "big" gift from us rather than a big party. (Yes, of course it's more legos, lol.)

Micah has requested/demanded that we all wish him a happy birthday by at least noon (well, technically, he said 12:01 pm), that we go out for a late lunch to Macaroni Grille, and that he be able to open gifts immediately thereafter. He's also picked out coffee ice cream but wasn't really interested in a cake. Since he decided on Asher's birthday, though, that people can't change age until they've blown out their candles, he's agreed to let us put candles on the lemon bundt cake that I made yesterday (for Nathan and me, just because) so that he can officially turn 6. We'll probably also make some Star Wars sugar cookies. :)

Here's a picture of my birthday boy this morning (not the greatest picture, but I'll try to get a better one later today):

And here are six things about my baby:

  1. He's proud of the fact that he's my "lovey dovey" and that he has a "squishy tushy."
  2. He's bound and determined to keep up with his big brothers and, thus, amazes us regularly with his knowledge and recall.
  3. He's embarrassingly obsessed with the Wii right now, particularly the Lego Star Wars games.
  4. He loves to wave at me from whatever activity/class he's participating in, usually with a great big grin. ;)
  5. He loves numbers and is constantly computing different things just for kicks and because he can.
  6. His plan for his future right now includes getting married when he's 16, not going to college, being a Lego designer, and living with us forever.

So. That's that. He's growing up on me. Darn it all. :)

Quote #30.

Today's quote:

Do or do not...there is no try. –Yoda (“The Empire Strikes Back”)

Guess what. I did it. I registered for my first race! It’s just a local 5K, but the point is that I signed up. As Yoda so wisely pointed out, you either do something or you don’t. I’m running. Whether I’m running marathons or just around the block, I’m running.
