HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Nine.

Sniff. Today my sweet Asher turns NINE. Here's a picture of him messing around with Micah at my brother's wedding last weekend:

Yes, he's airborne and yes, he's barefoot. (Let's just say that a certain husband/father somehow neglected to pack one of Asher's shoes for the reception. At least he had shoes for the wedding...but they were the ones Noah wore last summer for my sister's wedding so they didn't exactly fit and I'd promised he'd only have to wear them during the ceremony. As you can tell, Asher's all broken up about it, lol.)

In any case. He's nine now. No idea how that happened. :) So. Here are nine things about my guy:

  1. He's the most flexible of the three...both literally (remember him in the splits?) and otherwise. He tends to be the first to volunteer for new experiences, so long as they're not related to eating. ;)
  2. He's the most aware of people's emotions and takes those emotions upon himself.
  3. He struggles the most to find his "place" in the world...his strengths. (It's tough being the middlest.)
  4. He's quick to smile and has sincere eyes.
  5. He still gags when attempting to even taste red meat.
  6. He's generally bursting with energy...finding sitting still to be a true chore.
  7. He loves stories.
  8. He usually ends up more tanned than the other two (but I think Noah's going to top him this year thanks to swim team).
  9. He really wants to visit France for some reason. He says he'd love to see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre ("the glass pyramid" as he calls it). No idea where this came from but would love to make this happen one of these days. :)

So. Happy birthday, my Asher! No big plans today...he celebrated in WA with his grandparents and aunts and uncles and chose not to do a party here this year (opting for a "big" gift from us instead...yes, Legos...was there any doubt?). We'll do a small cake and open gifts when Nathan gets home from work tonight. :)

(You may not have realized but we've been out of town for the past couple weeks. Been playing some major catch up since Wednesday and am *almost* to the point of sharing more pictures and everything else. Hang tight. More stories to come!)

Glad you are home! Happy Birthday Ash!

Gabe has been harassing me about hanging with Noah. Jamie would love an afternoon with Ash too! Email me for a playdate soon :)
