HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Updating

Hi there. Feels like it might be time to do a bit of updating. Things here have been mostly quiet, as they generally are in January and February. Lots of random things to report...

Let's start with what met me when I got home from Washington...

Yup, Micah decided to shave his head. Apparently his hair was bothering him. Fortunately he has a good shaped head and his hair grows quickly. He claims he isn't cold. ;)

Micah has also stopped demo team at Karate West and has joined a Title Boxing gym. He's been enjoying the change of pace and getting to punch things.

He's also been working on scholarship and special program applications. Because he's only heard back from half of the colleges he applied to so far (darn California schools don't release decisions until March), he's been continuing to pursue all of the tasks for all of the schools. (ugh) As part of that, he has an interview in Boulder next weekend for their Leeds Scholars Program. Given that, we went and bought him a new interview suit. (We'd have done it this summer to send with him to college like we did for his brothers but opted to get it a little earlier so he can use it for this interview also...because the red suit he wore to prom didn't seem appropriate to me (he disagreed, lol) and because his brothers' suits didn't fit him, lol.)

Asher's changed gears here and is no longer thinking about becoming a pilot. Instead, he's applied to transfer to a nearby college and is looking to pursue a degree in physical education. His time working with kids at Mountain Kids and with the YMCA after school program has shown him that he actually enjoys working with kids, and the PE aspect makes sense with his love of being active.

He continues to love karate demo team and has added a weekly class at Apex Denver. It's an adult tricking class...using the fundamentals of kicks and movement to work on inversions and tricking combos. He's happy to be flipping and jumping in a space built for doing that safely.

As for me, I've continued my regular boot camp and climbing, have enjoyed lunches with friends, and have been watching a number of MasterClass courses. (I got a lovely free subscription last year and have finally gotten around to using it.)

Altogether, we've also been tackling lots of little house projects, nothing exciting but it's nice to get them checked off the list.

I think that mostly catches things up for now. :)
