HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Last one

Guess who got his license today?! Yup, all three of my guys are now fully licensed drivers.

Micah took his drive test yesterday (exactly one year from when we were able to get his drivers permit)...

...and we were able to get an appointment at the DMV today (thankfully in Fort Collins this time, lol)...

Whew. Congrats to the boy! He's pretty happy about the whole thing and definitely more excited about driving than his brothers were. :)

Personally, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I feel a large sense of relief at being done with teaching boys to drive. (I've been getting these boys through drivers ed, drive camps, official on street driving, logging permit hours, making appointments at the DMV, dealing with auto insurance, etc for just over six years.) It'll also be nice to be able to have Micah run errands for me and get himself to things. And I know that this is a good thing overall...a step in the right direction for sure.

On the other hand, having teenaged drivers is scary (and expensive, lol). ;) Also, sincerely, I'll miss our car conversations. The years of logging permit driving hours (and the years before that) were truly a gift of time. Boys are much more talkative when trapped in a car with you. :) Sigh.

So. Today was a transition. We're having a number of those lately. Yay?
