HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Ten on Tuesday

1. Yesterday, two of my three had their annual well check appointments. Mostly all good. :)

2. But. Asher probably needs glasses. (Yeah, we saw that coming and have an appointment at our optometrist scheduled in a few weeks.) The part I found entertaining was when the nurse had Asher covering one eye and trying to read the lines...and Micah was standing next to him telling him the answers, lol. Oy. Obviously had to move Micah and will have his eyes checked by the optometrist, too...because, even though he passed the vision test at the pediatrician's just fine, I have a hunch that it was more a matter of memorization. ;) (Because the boy has a killer memory and because they used the same chart and lines for Asher (who went first) and Micah.)

3. Also, we'll be having an appointment with a cardiologist sometime this fall. Micah's had a Still's Murmur since birth. Our pediatrician hasn't been concerned at all, as apparently most of these disappear by the time a kid's eight, and Micah's otherwise completely healthy. Well, Micah's eight now (or will be next week) and his is still apparent. So. We've been referred to a cardiologist. I'm told that these typically cause parents more stress on their hearts than the kids and that there's really nothing to worry about. The cardiologist will hopefully be able to tell us what's what; but, since he/she isn't at the pediatrician's office regularly (I think the pediatrician said he/she comes up from Denver?), it will be a little bit before we get that scheduled.

4. Stoked because I found an awesome online deal on the shoes Noah's currently wearing (remember the work it took to find some?)...more than half off what I paid for his current pair. So. Regardless of whether they'll fit him or not, I ordered the next size up for the fall. So there. ;)

5. In case you were wondering, dumbbells suck. (Yes, still doing my boot camp class, lol.) Also, stairs suck. More importantly, though, stairs with dumbbells suck. ;)

6. I have to appreciate, though, that the boot camp instructor manages to continually find new muscles to make sore, lol.

7. Micah, in true Micah-style, finished his schoolwork for the year this morning before his brothers even woke up...a full three days ahead of schedule. Now to convince the other two to follow suit... ;)

8. I haven't forgotten that I'm due to post entries here about our curriculum plans for the coming year. Look for those soon!

9. I'm also still working on my list of forty things I want to do before I'm forty. That may take a bit longer.

10. Last call on those things we had for sale locally. The tent and bike trailer are gone. (yay!) The rest will be heading to Goodwill and Habitat and such this weekend.
