HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Our weekend (part 2).

Just a few things. :)

First. Duplos (yet again) to the rescue! Our toothpick bridges are pretty much done now. We hit a minor glitch when we were trying to figure out how to attach the two sides of each bridge. Brilliantly, I then had an "ah-ha!" moment. Just as Duplo blocks came in handy when we were trying to explain fractions and simplest form, Duplo blocks were the solution to holding our bridge sides up while adding the roadbeds and tops. Like so:

(Pinned the sides to foam board and placed them in our little Duplo holder. Yes, we ended up making more than one holder so more than one boy could work at a time. I guess it's a good thing that we haven't gotten rid of the four big ol' tubs of Duplo blocks that we still have.)

We'll let the bridges "cure" for a bit and test them later this week. I'll take better pics of the finished projects then.

Second. Beyond mowing and toothpick bridges, we managed to sort through all the boys' clothes...switching out cold weather attire for summer duds. (Yes, it's Colorado and I'm sure some of the cold weather clothes will still be needed, lol. No worries. I keep out some pants and sweaters even through the summer.) I'm embarrassed by how many tee shirts and shorts they have (that's what happens when you have three boys and just continue to hand things down, lol), but am proud to say that I weeded out 4 bags of clothes to take to Goodwill or otherwise distribute. Yay!

Third. Noah took this picture:

Just because. ;)

Fourth. It's technically not part of the weekend any more, but Noah started swim team this morning. Sounds like it went pretty well.

Guess we're headed into summer now...  :)
