HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Handy tip.

By the way, just so you know...Curad makes these awesome cast protectors that work fabulously for keeping a cast dry when you bathe (and other such activities). I've seen other brands and styles that actually vacuum out the air and all...lots of options that are probably just dandy. But. I just wanted to tell you about these because...

- they're way cheaper than those other ones (I got mine for $11 and two came in that box...the others I was looking at were about $30-$40 for one);

- they do a pretty decent job and are reusable (it's basically just a plastic bag with a stretchy opening that seals around your arm); and,

- they can be found at your local Walgreens (and probably other places).

If you're like me and apt to stand uselessly staring at all the possibilities while tempted to just buy one of each, now you know. ;)

Sixteen years ago when my son shattered his elbow, we used a large kitchen trash bag over the arm secured with a large rubberband with a hand towel tucked in under the rubberband to make it more comfortable and catch any drips. Worked great, but this would have been MUCH easier.
