HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Speaking of February...

Just a few "February" things...

First, don't forget about the February Month By Month challenge over at CK for a chance to win a copy of my book. This month's challenge is making a layout about special words in your life. You can get more info over at CK...links are here on my blog over on the left. :) I'm working on a layout for this challenge, myself, and will share it when I finish.

Second, what are your Valentine's plans? We have our annual homeschool group Valentine's party and Asher's Options class is apparently also going to have a little party. On the actual day, Asher's requested that we visit our local Whole Foods. (We went on a tour of the store a week or so ago with our homeschool group and there was mention of a chocolate fountain on Valentine's Day, and Asher's all over that, lol.) Beyond that, I'm hoping to spend some quality time with a couple of BFFs that day (Nathan and I will celebrate a different day).

In terms of "things," though, what are you making/giving? Last year I made some fun button bouquets and somewhat silly cards. I also used that same artwork from the cards for a layout and made each boy a little mailbox of goodies. The boys made their own Valentines to pass out as well. Yeah, lots of Valentines happening here last year. Actually, if you're interested, you're more than welcome to the heart I drew. Here's the heart by itself:

Rather than take the time to figure out how to post a bigger jpg and png file here, just email me if you want it, okay? I'll send 'em out that way. :) And, yes, I know it's kinda weird. But, hey, sometimes I just feel weird like that. ;)

For this year, the boys are taking a slightly different route on their Valentines. I'll post pictures after we finish them but they involve stuff beyond just cards (little glider planes, popper things, sand pail sets and fortune cookies...don't worry, it'll make sense with pictures, lol). I haven't decided on my own yet. Last year I was so ahead of the game on this...done with much of it in January. This year, not so much (at least for my part). ;) I haven't even decided if I'm getting the boys anything this year. Do you give your kids Valentines?

Third, don't forget that the second week of February (next week) is Random Act of Kindness Week! I just received a lovely email from a CK reader thanking me for mentioning that in my Monthly To-Dos column for February. She's got an awesome plan to involve her whole family in spreading the kindness (and scrapbooking about it!). To that reader, thank YOU for your note and ideas! If anyone else does something special, I'd love to hear about it!
