HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Oy. February already.

I'm not quite sure how it got to be February already but thought I'd post just to say hi. ;) I know I'm behind on my 2009 Weekly album and Lists of Me (well, I'm behind in posting...I've actually mostly kept them current but just keep forgetting to take pictures while it's light out, lol). In the meantime, though, I wanted to share a couple of gifts I made my mom in December...because they just made me happy. :)

First, I made a fun little softcover 7x7 book. I included the courtship story as my mom recorded it and then heaps of pictures of my mom and dad over the years. The cover looked like this:

I ended up with like 96 pages and am really happy with how nicely it came out and how easy it was to create over at Blurb. I can definitely see myself making more books there!

(Oh, and that courtship story shows up on the layout that I did for February's issue of Creating Keepsakes...for an awesome article about love stories. It's still available in stores, so check it out. The layout is called "Timeline.")

One of the other gifts I made for my mom was a framed 8x10 print. I don't have a picture of the finished thing all framed (just bought an 11x17 frame and adjusted a pre-cut white mat to fit). But, here's the print:

I LOVE how this turned out! It's a photo of my dad back when he was about 18 and heavy in his Bob Dylan stage (that lasted pretty much forever). The text is the lyrics to Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" (my dad's favorite song) repeated over and over. I used the fabulous technique by Deena Wuest that's featured in the awesome Get Creative With Type book that I've mentioned before. Stinkin' easy and so way cool!

Okay, I'm off to feed the boys then we're heading out...to the park, music class, the gym, Whole Foods, and then home again. Will post again with more fun stuff soon!

Hello, I just have to tell you how much I adore your work. I ordered your book on Amazon about a month ago, and I received word that it has (finally) shipped. I am SO excited. And I am also beyond happy to have found your blog all of the fun downloads. You are amazing. Thanks for sharing your talents!
