HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Hey, hey it's my birthday!

Woohoo! Feeling pretty dang good about life right now and am celebrating my birthday (and Mother's Day) by going to CKU, so no big doings going on today. I'm wanting to do something fun, though, so how about a little RAK (random act of kindness)? I have a lovely "All About Me" album kit (the ones put out by CK...comes with the album and all the "stuff" and instructions) up for grabs! Just post here and tell me the name of a good book...we signed up for the library's summer reading program yesterday and I'm always on the lookout for good reads, both for myself and the boys. :)

I'll have one of the boys draw a name from the posts tomorrow around noon!

My fav. series for little boys is Mathew & the Midnite Tow Truck. and I like light reading so i was ROFL when I read the shopaholic series. Hope you enjoy!

I am reading "The Christmas Box" by Richard Paul Evans. I love it! Maybe you will enjoy it, too.

My favorite children's book author is Jan Brett. She has a web site with all kinds of activities to go along with her books. A really fun book of hers is Honey, Honey Lion. Her website shows you how to make "instruments" which go with the story.

Happy birthday !!
And if you want to read something really funny you should try one of Sophie Kinsella's books, the shopaholic series is hilariously funny !

I just finished reading 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. Anything by her is great. I'm now reading Split Second by David Baldacci. It's a great little legalish type book about some secret service agents. A little far fetched, but good mindless reading!

Happy Birthday Amanda! This blog of yours is so much fun-it's great to see it up after lots of persuasion from some other bloggers out there...no names of course. :)

Happy Birthday Amanda!

Reading is my other obsession besides scrapbooking. Jodi Picoult and Francine Rivers are my favorite authors...I also love Jennifer Weiner. The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards is totally awesome and the Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is fantastic.

For your boys I love Arnie the Doughnut and I Stink, the Horrible Harry series and Franny K. Stein.

BTW I already have the AAM album so give someone else the wonderful RAK!

It's a little dark and not for kids, but The Handmaid's Tale is very good.
If you want a light, sit by the pool summer type read, I'd suggest Good in Bed and Jennifer Weiner. She also did In Her Shoes.
My kids are still very young so I'm only aware of small kids books like Pirates Don't Change Dirty Diapers.

How about THE MEMORY KEEPER’S DAUGHTER, by Kim Edwards.

And for the kids, I teach first graders and they love anything by David Shannon (DAVID GOES TO SCHOOL, A BAD CASE OF STRIPES-I love this one, DUCK ON A BIKE, and NO, DAVID!) They are funny and creative.

Happy Birthday, and enjoy yourself!!!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you!!! Hope you have a great celebration.

I love all of the J.A. Jance books. She writes about Joanna Brady Mysteries and also about J.P. Beaumont mysteries. If you like mysteries all of her books are 'grabbers' right from the start and they keep you going until the end. You won't want to put the book down, yet you won't want to read to the end because it will be finished. lol

My granddaughters (9 & 11) love all the Amelia Bedelia books even as they get older. She gets into so much trouble. I enjoy them too. lol

Have fun reading.
Sandy

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! It is my DS, Zack's birthday today as well! Dh on the 10th, another DS on the 23rd, so you are in good company!
Okay now books, for you I would highly recommend "The Glass Castle" a memoir by Jeanette Walls, it was a quick read for me, 2 days - I couldnt put it down! It was on the NYT bestseller list...think you might like it, about a girl growing up in a dysfunctional family,
yet, she never feels sorry for herself and makes a success of her life.
For your son, hm, looks as though he is little so I would go with "Today I feel silly and other moods that make my day" by Jamie Lee Curtis... my ds's 1st enjoyed it, now my dd enjoys it! It talks about the moods of children, all moods and emotions, how to deal with them, how they are normal, and ehlathy ways to express them- yet it is such a playful and silly book she kinda slips in the messages...kwim? there is a cool wheel at the end of the book where the kids can spin and make different faces and moods for the child, really fun!
Enjoy the reading!

Happy Birthday!! My suggestion for the boys would be Piggie Pie by Margie Palatini. It is about a silly witch who goes to look for piggies to make a pie. The piggies fool her at every turn of the page. It is a great book to get kids to pay attention to the details in the pictures to help in comprehension. Hope you have a great day!

Happy Birthday!!!!

My favorite kids book is Oh the Places You Will Go by Dr Suess.

Im currently reading Map of Bones by James Rollins - its very good!
