HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Thankful Thursday

Happy May! Not quite sure how 1/3 of the year is already gone but also feel like the start of the year was ages ago...know what I mean? ;) In any case, happy May to you. Here's a quick list of things I'm thankful for today:

1. Spring flowers. My tulips have bloomed and are happy. My peonies are well on their way. I'm thankful for the signs of spring...not quite as happy about the yardwork that signals...but quite happy that I don't suffer from allergies like Nathan does so that I can enjoy being outside.

2. Backyard eggs. I have a sweet source for backyard eggs and they're simply adorable! I love all the colors and the fact that they even come in different sizes! Makes me smile. :)

3. Sourdough still. Yes, I'm still baking sourdough. I'm not baking daily or anything...just once a week so far. I'm definitely getting the hang of it and we've enjoyed it immensely. Thankful, too, for the new accessories we've acquired along the way...like our new toaster (toasted sourdough is amazing!), butter bell/crock and bread knife.

4. Reading. I've been reading lately. One of the books I've appreciated recently was called Full Body Burden. It's by Kristen Iversen and is about the nuclear weapons plant that used to be here in CO just south of Boulder. I found it to be a great read...very informative. Always thankful to learn new things.

5. Bright Star. Nathan and I went to the Candlelight Dinner theater a couple weeks ago and watched a performance of Bright Star. It's inspired by a true story and has a score by Steve Martin. We hadn't heard of it before but the score by Steve Martin caught our curiosity. Truly, it was wonderful! The musicians and the actors were amazing! Thankful that such experiences are available to us.

6. Climbing. Yes, I continue to climb. Pretty proud of myself for continuing even with Micah down in Boulder now so I don't have a climbing partner. It won't mean anything to most of you, but I've been pushing myself a bit more this year and have had a couple of climbs I'm particular happy about this past week...one that was on auto-belay and was the most difficult rating I've completed on ropes and one that was technical and used holds I generally avoid. Yay, me!

7. Colorado colleges. Gearing up right now for a busy next week...with Micah graduating from CU and Asher moving back home from his dorm at UNC. Gotta just say that I'm thankful that all three boys ended up at Colorado colleges. In watching other parents' discussions and concerns about graduation and move out, I'm so glad to be within easy driving distance so that we don't need to figure out lodging or shipping/storing belongings. Plenty of other reasons to also be thankful about the distance, though I won't get into them all. Whew.

Okay, that's a good list for now. Here's to a happy and healthy May to us all!
