HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Thankful Thursday

Whoa. It's already February 10. February does that. ;P Will do a little catching up...

Things I'm thankful for today...

1. Throwback Thursdays. Because why not? Also, how adorable are these boys? This picture is from 10 years ago this month:

Thankful to have so many fabulous pictures to look back through regularly.

2. Shoveling snow. Strangely, I usually enjoy shoveling snow. It's good exercise and is satisfying to see the progress. At the start of the month, we had a good bit of snow and I was outside shoveling. I shouted at Micah that he was welcome to come help. He (surprisingly) came back out...in flip flops and without a shirt (but with a jacket). And then he started the north side of the driveway...from the outer edge. He shoveled down along the edge (from the garage to the sidewalk). Then he came back up and made another pass just closer to the center of the driveway. Then another. (Yes, this meant carrying the snow over the strip he'd just cleared and thus dropping bits in the newly shoveled area.) And then he decided he was cold (imagine that, lol) and went back inside. Um, who shovels snow that way?!

This is what it looked like when he went back inside. Yes, I went back over that entire side of the driveway. I'm not sure if it was actually "help" but I'm thankful that he tried. :)

3. Micah progress. Speaking of Micah, lots of stuff going on with him. As we're now in the end of his junior year, he's finally focusing a bit and looking toward the future. He's registered for the ACT and SAT and prep for that, he's working on a list of colleges he's interested in, we've planned a visit to a couple of them over spring break, he got his booster shot (and had to go off his arthritis meds following that so wasn't thrilled but starts the meds back up tomorrow so will feel better), and he's keeping up with his four college classes, weightlifting and karate demo team. Whew.

4. The Olympics. And finally, I'm thankful for the Olympics. I enjoy watching. It's also, though, why I haven't been as productive this past week, lol. We got Chinese takeout to watch the opening ceremonies...actually signed up for Peacock streaming this time around so we can see the full coverage of events (last year for the Tokyo Olympics we didn't sign up for the full streaming thing and could only watch clips)...think that Apple TV's remote should definitely have a mute button...and are finally settling into a decent watching routine. (We're figuring out which things we can do while watching so saving those for then, resisting the urge to just watch *everything*, and learning to turn it off when we need to go to bed since we can always watch the replay later.)

That's pretty much what's been going on here. I've also been tackling lots of to do list things in preparation for upcoming trips and getting taxes in order. Not too exciting. ;) Excuse me now while I continue watching the Olympics...
