HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Thankful Thursday

Hmmm. Not too much to report from here this week...have just been hunkered down doing what needed doing and going back and forth between trying to follow the news and deliberately stepping away. Not feeling up to tackling all that or even making a list this week. Instead, I'll just share pictures from the outing Micah and I took last Friday morning.

We headed out with a friend of Micah's from his climbing team, a friend who's very familiar with the outdoor climbing options in the area. They let me tag along. :) We picked one of the closest spots and just hung out for a couple hours...

Yes, I climbed, too. Micah and Darwin showed me how to do a couple of warm up routes (similar to the warm up route I did last October). And then they talked me through an actual rated route. It was still a pretty easy route (V2), but it was a real one. :)

If I'd been by myself, I probably would have talked myself out of doing this. I would have looked at it and tried some of it and told myself I'd come back and try more later. But with two teenage boys egging me on (encouragingly), I just did it. And it felt great. :)

Relatedly, a week or so ago I made myself a list of 21 goals for 2021. I like lists, lol. Some of the things on my list are practical or necessary and some are just for fun. One of the just for fun goals was to send an outdoor boulder problem (to successfully climb a predetermined outside route).

Done. :) Also, thankful for being in shape enough to be able to enjoy stuff like this with my kid.
