HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Thankful Thursday

Time for another Thankful Thursday! :) So, here are some things I'm thankful for today...

1. Rocks/boot camp. I know it sounds weird but I'm developing an attachment to a rock I've been using at the park, lol. Once a week, our boot camp group meets at the park to workout (instead of via Zoom). Lacking dumbbells, we've started using these large rocks...carrying them around, lifting and swinging them, basically using them as weights. A couple times ago, we took a picture to commemorate our lovely rocks. So thankful for this group and our ability to continue working out together...both in person and virtually...throughout this pandemic!

For the record, this was the only time we stood this close together. The rest of the time we do maintain proper social distancing. :)

2. Being caught up. A couple weeks ago I officially finished scanning all the print photos in my piles and albums and boxes here. In about a month, I scanned 3256 photos to digitize them. Whew. Thankful to have those all backed up!

3. Disney+. Yes. We succumbed and added Disney+ to our streaming services collection. I really wanted to watch "Hamilton" and the boys wanted to catch up on "Clone Wars" and "The Mandalorian" so it seemed like the thing to do. lol. We all watched "Hamilton" together on the Fourth and thoroughly enjoyed it...so very impressive! And Nathan and the boys have now finished the first season of "The Mandalorian." We're thankful for the large Disney+ library and will definitely be watching more shows!

4. Birthday flowers. For my birthday, my lovely in-laws gifted me a flower arrangement every month, and this second one arrived a couple days ago. It's beautiful!

5. City's free sprinkler audits. Thanks to our neighborhood's status as part of the City's sustainable neighborhood network, we were eligible to take part in the City's free sprinkler audits a couple weeks before the rest of the City. We signed up and had that completed earlier this week. We're surprised by and thankful for the level of detail and recommendations given. They evaluated our entire system and even replaced one of our sprinkler heads for us. We're now looking into a few specific repairs/changes that will hopefully streamline our sprinkler system more and save money. If you're local, I highly recommend having this done. You can sign up here.

6. Drivers permit test. Micah took his permit test (the written test) earlier today and passed! Thankful to be one step closer to getting all these boys through the entire process and licensed. :)

(He'll have a drive camp session in a week or so...then get his actual permit after his birthday...then have another drive camp session...and do his on-street driving sessions with the drivers ed folks (we've been so happy with MasterDrive for all three boys)...and log the required 50 hours of drive time with me and Nathan...then finally take the drive test and get his license after having the permit for at least a year. Whew. So...yeah...not actually finished, lol, but I'll celebrate the steps that get us closer.)

And that's my list for now. :) Hope July's treating y'all wonderfully!
