HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Christmas

And now here are the pictures from Christmas...

I'll start by mentioning that on Christmas Eve we enjoyed watching "It's a Wonderful Life" for the very first time ever (for all of us). And then we went for our traditional drive to look at Christmas light displays (and found our favorite display that's set to music and so impressive). And then everyone opened one present (after they figured out the code...which this year was the Navajo code talkers code from WWII, since Asher's history research paper was about that and it was in my head, lol)...

When they were younger, I used to continue my mom's tradition of getting everyone pajamas for Christmas Eve. Then boys grew up some and decided pajamas weren't for them so I switched to just a new tee shirt for each boy. This year, though, I got them all matching pajama pants and made them wear them and let me take at least one picture the next morning. Ta da? (Yeah, they didn't have a matching pair that fit me, so I went with coordinating instead.)

Christmas morning brought gift opening (after we finally got everyone awake and downstairs...which is fairly typical for us, as we've never been a family of early risers, lol). My gift from the boys was this photo:

...with the Old Town Santa that they used to let me take them to for photos. :) Awww. I appreciate that they stood in quite the line and took the time to get this taken. (I, meanwhile, was home doing other things.)

And we got and exchanged a number of games...

(have played some of them already and others are sitting here waiting to be opened soon!)...

...and I still got everyone a tee shirt...

(They were making "intense eye contact" and being silly.)

Here are close ups of the shirts. Noah's makes me smile every time.

And then we did lunch and opened stocking stuffers and played games and did some cleaning and watched "Die Hard" (first time for the boys and first time in decades for Nathan and I) and cleaned some more...and then we went to bed...feeling incredibly blessed.

Hope your Christmas was beautiful as well!!

(And Wednesday we picked up Nathan's parents in Denver and will now enjoy the week with them before life gets back to regularly scheduled things...may or may not get around to posting while they're here...)
