HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Ballooning over Pagosa

Um. So, earlier this week we went to an activities preview presentation thing here where we're staying. I won a half price ticket for a hot air balloon ride. (Woohoo!) Since Nathan and I have already done that, we decided to let boys experience the fun. We scheduled it for this morning...and I ended up going along also, as Micah didn't want to go without a parent and my birthday is closest, lol.

In any case, it was an awesome morning...here's a picture Nathan snapped as he was helping set up the balloon for take off:

...and the actual take off (see Asher giving the thumbs up? (the four of us ended up in different compartments to help with weight distribution))...

This is from during the ride...the black dot is our shadow...

...and here's me and Asher...

After we landed, we got to help with taking down the balloon and everything also. It was actually pretty darn cool. (Nathan's the one on the right out there helping bring down the balloon.)

And there was a professional photographer there who took lots of fun pictures. My favorite may have been when she had the younger two and me pose as if the balloon had crashed and we'd died. (Noah refused to act dead so is trying to rescue the bodies, lol.)

After we finally got everything packed back up, we headed to where we'd started for a ballooning story and ceremony, complete with mimosas and muffins.

Awesome morning!
