HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Recap.

Just quickly as I'm still going through vacation pictures and notes...

Thought I'd mention a few numbers:

  • 14 days (with four of those being mostly driving)
  • 15 states traveled through, plus the District of Columbia
  • 24 sites visited
  • 4424 miles driven
  • 16 magnets added to our collection (we weren't able to pick one up at every site for a variety of reasons but we'll call it good, lol)

Sorry, it's really tricky to take pictures of shadow boxes without getting glare and reflections in this particular spot. ;)

Yup, got our new magnets added and now we need a new shadow box. (Yay, us!) I actually have one that I picked up at the same time so that it will match...just need to find metal for the backing and paint the metal to match.

A few lessons I discovered as I was placing this last batch of magnets, though...

  • magnets with full backings don't like to move again after being placed (I think this also has to do with the paint on the metal)
  • Mt Rushmore is tarnishing something awful ;)
  • trying to hot glue a magnet to the back of a plastic/rubber keychain doesn't work well at all
  • one should avoid battleship shaped magnets if possible, as they're hard to work into the design, lol

Okay. That was all for now. Busy weekend coming up with friends visiting and a party to enjoy... :)
