HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Happy.

Sorry I've been quiet here. I've got some slow computer issues this week. :) But. All's well. In fact, life's pretty good. Here are some of the things making me happy right now...

1. Swim team's over until fall for Noah. He had his last school year season meet yesterday and set new personal records in three of the four events he swam. Given the 7-8" of snow we received from Winter Storm Achilles on Wednesday, the meet (though originally scheduled to be held in the recently reopened outdoor pool) was moved back indoors. ;)

(Note. Yes, there's obviously a summer swim team at this same place where we do the school year swim team. Noah opts not to participate in that, though, as it requires practice five days a week at 7am, lol.)

2. JOAD is also over until fall. I already mentioned the final tournament, but we also had our team potluck last weekend, so now we're officially good.

3. Course, that didn't stop the boys and I from heading to the archery range this morning for some "fun shooting." :) I even brought my bow and shot with them. Amazing how much happier they can be when shooting at 3D animal targets instead of a paper target with scores, lol.

4. Even though Winter Storm Achilles rather interrupted my tapering/training plans for this last week before the Colorado Half Marathon that I'm running again on Sunday, I managed to get out in the sunshine this morning and enjoy a short run. (For the record, my training this year has been much less regular than last year. I'm good with that. My plan is simply to finish and be thankful that the race has kept me motivated to exercise at least some for the last few months, lol.)

5. Our latest school session is now over (I graded stuff tonight), so I get a break. ;)

6. I'm feeling very blessed to have so many lovely friends...friends I've known for years and years, friends I've made through our local homeschooling group, friends I've "met" through the internet...friends. I know I'm usually not the most forward in these groups (I'm an incredible introvert really), but I truly value having people in my life who get what I'm talking about and share interests and laugh with me.

7. Even though there's still snow in my yard, I'm choosing to think positive, warm, sunny thoughts and am looking so very forward to spring and summer. ;)

That's enough for now. :) Mostly, just feeling happy here. Hope you are, too...
