HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now grown) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

I've decided.

I have a proposal. I've given it some thought, and I firmly believe that all drivers should be required to take the written test both initially and (at least) 7 to 10 years after first getting their license.

Seriously. Think about it...at age 16, people are fully hormonal with puberty and entrenched in the mindset of learning for a test...memorizing and then promptly forgetting. And then we don't require them to prove that they've actually retained any of those driving rules unless they break the rules or until they're so advanced in age that the rules have probably changed anyhow. It's no wonder I get so irritated with all those "other" drivers on the road who don't seem to know the rules, right? ;)

So. I hereby declare that all drivers should be required to take the written test at least once more after initially being licensed to drive...once puberty has passed and they have some life experience under their belt. As an added bonus, this requirement would even bring in additional revenue for states and would potentially cut down on accidents, thereby saving insurance companies money. See? Everyone wins.

Whew. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. ;)

Ha ha! Still thinking about the drivin requirements. Have you considered running for public office to make some of your ideas a reality? I'd vote for you. When I read the title, "I've decided..." I was sure you were going to say that Pinterest was the best thing ever for the list-maker in all of us!
