HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Our weekend.

Since we didn't really do anything to celebrate Nathan's birthday on Friday, we ended up headed to Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday for a spontaneous family hike at Nathan's request. We managed to find a trail that wasn't busy and started off, only to discover that the trail was less crowded for a reason. ;) Let's just say that it was rather a rocky climb for the first portion. The boys, though, were great troopers and we made it roughly 4 miles and 700 feet in elevation change in just under 4 hours (having stopped numerous times for water and snacks and to look at sticks and to talk to the ducks and to clamor to rocks in the middle of lakes). Here's what the trail looked like:

Yup, we tired those boys out. ;)

We then drove back into Estes Park for a lovely dinner before driving home to prepare for our second yard sale of this summer. Yes, after our earlier purging success we discovered that we'd actually missed a few rooms and ended up with another fairly well stocked yard sale. We're getting to rather be pros at this. ;) In any case, it feels awesome to have gotten rid of basically two packed rooms full of stuff...embarrassing to admit that we had that much extra stuff in the first place, but awesome all the same. ;)

How was your weekend?

Good weekend. Pat and I went up to the cabin for the whole afternoon on Saturday. Quiet and peaceful. No changes except for a new deck. Read a good book, ate a picnic lunch, soaked in the beautiful scenery.
