Weird question...
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 08:06PM
...or not so weird. Depends. Anyhow. Asher and Micah were (as is often the case lately) discussing Star Wars just now and got to pondering exactly why Anakin Skywalker turns to the dark side. They were also wondering how Padme Amidala dies. Then, they theorized that perhaps Anakin was so torn up about Padme dying that he turned to the dark side. Sounds plausible. I'd honestly never given it any thought. So. Do any of you die hard Star Wars fans happen to know? Is that why he turns into Darth Vader?
(will be back soon with more trip pictures and all that...really!)

He turned to the dark side because he was scared of her dying and thought that turning to the dark side would make him powerful enough to protect her from death. But his turn to the dark side is what killed Padme. She died of a broken heart more or less. Wow. Did I just admit that I knew that outloud and for all to read? What a nerd.
Ditto to the above...and the lesson we can all learn is that the dark side may be attractive and tempting, intoxicating if you will...but just when you realize how dreadful it is it is too late to turn back. New homeschool opportunity: Star Wars Roundtable discussion with the Probst boys :-)
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” There was always much fear in Anakin (why the council didn't want to train him at first). His fear of not being able to save Padme as he wasn't able to save his mother turned him. Those who turn away from wisdom towards folly ultimately end up alone.
Ask me what hangs over out mantel in the family room:)
Padme dies as a result of Anakin turning to the dark side. He was told some partial truth about her potentially dying and fearing that, he was told further lies that if he turns to the dark side, he would have the power to prevent her from dying, he turns.
Lucas was busy "copying" ideas from the Lord of the Rings. There, those who looked into the plantirs were often shown glimpses of the futures, what they decide to do with what they have seen determines outcomes of destiny.
Anakin, like the rest of us, faced choices, and went the wrong way.
