HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Called, on account of snow...again.

Sorry I missed the whole start of April and all. :) Busy times around here...just happens every year around this time. Here's a quick run-down of what's happened this past week:

Noah (and Asher, but to a lesser extent) was once again distraught over the cancellation of Saturday's soccer games. (Last week (3/28) the first games of the season were canceled, too.) Can't play soccer with snow on the ground. :) Noah, btw, would like to know why we didn't just have a winter soccer season...and he's right, the weather during January and February would have been dandy for soccer...barely any snow at all then. Weird. Regardless, at least they've managed practices...since they're during the week when it's all beautiful and sunny. ;P

Ash wasn't feeling well but no one could figure out why...not a cough and runny nose sort of thing, just complaints of stomach pain and lots of fatigue and loss of appetite. Some days he'd be fine during the day but then crash at night. He (and Micah who had the cough thing going on) were waking up fairly regularly through the night...yeah, lots of not so good sleep. In any case, Thursday in the early morning, Asher's complaints changed to including chest and back pain and he was in such obvious distress that Nathan took him to the pediatrician...who was concerned 1) because none of the complaints and symptoms lined up, and 2) because the only thing she could come up with was possible appendicitis or internal injuries. So, my boy got to have blood taken for the first time. The results? Nada. Nothing wrong with the boy. And later that day he perked up again and has been fine ever since. Go figure.

Micah decided that he needed his own "special words" for bedtime. Both Noah and Asher have been telling me "everything to say goodnight" every night for years, but apparently that's not good enough for Micah. On Wednesday, he announced to me that he wanted his own words. Took some doing (me throwing out ideas) but he settled on "have the biggest and best dreams" and has been telling me so every night since then. Such a character!

After scrambling on Thursday to run heaps of errands (including paying taxes and two soccer practices after Asher's whole dealio) we delivered our quota of filled plastic eggs for our neighborhood Easter egg hunt that's always scheduled for the Sunday before Easter. The hunt was, of course, canceled on account of the snow still on the ground today. Bleh.

Beyond all that, though, I've been having a rather productive week. Homeschooling's going well. We've begun our staging and prep for Noah and Asher's science fair projects. (Our homeschool group is having our first ever science fair on the 26th!) And. I mostly caught up on my journaling for my layouts. My system, you see, is kinda anal...I keep a running list of all the layouts I plan/want to do. I try, as I go, to do the journaling so that I just have to go back and pick that up when I'm ready to do the layout. I've gotten a bit behind on that, though. So. I went back through my list and updated stuff and added the journaling. (Trying not to dwell on the large number of layouts on that to do list, lol!) Now I feel like I'm ready to go and am stoked. :) Hoping to be way productive in that department in the coming months! (And I managed to finish a handful of layouts, too! Will share as I'm able...)

Whew. Now that that's all out of the way, lol...I'll post more this week, promise! I'm thinking I'll have some layouts to share and maybe even a giveaway! So, stay tuned...
