HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

My scrap-iversary!

Drat. I missed it officially and didn't realize until just now. But. Six years ago last Saturday (March 22) I started scrapbooking! Amazing how very much this creative outlet has come to influence my life. I'm so thankful to have this hobby...and, you know what?, I don't think I've ever done a layout just about why I love scrapbooking. I've thought about it plenty, but just never seem to get around to it. Hmmm. A six year scrap-iversary seems like a good reason, doesn't it? We'll see. :)

In any case, here are a few of my earliest pages (sorry for the poor pictures), just for kicks:

Yup, finished all of these in the spring of 2002 in my mission to complete Noah's first year album before Asher was born (which, I'm proud to say, I did...um, by a week or so).

I find it interesting how different and yet the same my scrapbooking is, particularly with regard to the products used. I did a lot more hand-written journaling in the beginning. :) (Computer generated journaling is so much quicker these days, lol.) I loved to tear paper (and still enjoy this, though not to the same extent). I thought I was so cool using those alphabet punches, while now I hoard sooooo very many other alphabets and still do not own a die cut system (or these punches). Through this all, though, I still find myself using primarily cardstock with only a few embellishments thrown in for good measure.

So, how has your scrapbooking changed and/or stayed the same since you started?

Happy Scrapiversary! I started in the spring of 2002 I believe... I need to look it up....

I have come back around to hand journaling again (with the rise of super cute journaling blocks and stamps) and I still use lots of solids with patterns sparingly... I think I still like a clean line, even when I add embellishments. :)

I need to figure out when my scrap-i-versary is -- brilliant concept, and definitely worth celebrating. I'm thinking been about five years since I started scrapping, and while my style has changed (I'm a lot more detail-focused than I once was), some things have remained the same. I still love a lot of color on my pages, and since I discovered inked edges years ago, it's still part of my scrapping repertoire. I can't stop!

my scrapping style. well i'll have to think on that question for a while. i'll just say my first attempts after a 10 year hiatus were very influenced by some old cks of my mil's. i quickly realized that was not the style anymore. but i still love those pages. i do think i've gotten a lot better at telling the story though. my first journaling blocks were pretty stilted. now it's so much easier. but we have to start somewhere!

My 10 year scrap-anniversary is coming up in July! I started with the basics, but got heavily into paper piecing and layers - lots of layers and product. Then, I found myself returning to a more simple style. That's where I am now, except I love patterned paper ;)
