Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now grown) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.
And, yes, I know I haven't been posting much...still trying to settle into some sort of routine for the school year and soccer season instead of just hurrying to react to whatever grabs my attention most at the moment. ;) Working on it...
Wow. Time truly flies when you don't want it to, LOL! So, two things today. First, yesterday all three boys had their first soccer practices of the season. They're all happy with their teams and I think it will be a good year. Very excited about the number of families we're seeing now that we already know...makes the experience just a little bit sweeter, I think. And, here's my little Micah at his first ever soccer practice:
Isn't he adorable? :) (He was pretending to kick the ball here...his idea, not mine, lol.) I had to laugh whilst watching the U5 practice...six little four year old boys, many of whom hadn't officially played soccer before. When the coach told them to grab a ball and follow him (dribbling around some cones), more than half of them literally grabbed a ball (in their arms) and walked behind him. ;) Yup, gonna have to be a little more literal, coach.
In any case, I'm mentally preparing myself for the season...a season of six practices and three games each week. The practices all land on the same two days and end up roughly back to back...in different locations, all about 10 minutes apart...which is good and bad, of course. :)
I've got it now so that getting boys to Micah's and Asher's practices is fine, but I'm still working on how to get Noah to his practice in time without making Asher miss half an hour of his practice. Don't worry, though, I have a few options I'm looking into. Oy.
So, thus begins my fall full of soccer. :) Now that we have this stuff squared away and on the calendar, we'll think about actually starting back to a full homeschool schedule next week. But don't hold me to that. ;) (Our Options program, by the way, doesn't start up until September 14.)
The second thing for today, then, is that today my layout is the featured one over on the Good Grief Blog. Please take a moment to go check out the layouts over there (not only mine) if you haven't already. Thanks so much for your continued support! (and...look for a new feature starting next week some time, okay? Yay!)
Just wanted to give folks a heads up that Creating Keepsakes has a couple cool things going on right now. First, FREE SHIPPING today! Head here for the info and then, ahem, might I suggest you go buy a copy of my book? ;) Second, they have a giveaway for a dandy Tamron camera lens that you might want to check out. Get the details here (scroll down).
First off, THANK YOU all so very much for checking out Good Grief Blog. I'm so thrilled by the outpouring of support and excitement to finally have something like this. It's only been a couple days (and I'm still continuing to tweak things, lol) but I can already tell that it just feels "right."
Secondly, please check out my layout over on the Prism blog today. Here's a peek:
While you're over there, don't forget about the guest designer call...ends August 28 and is a rockin' fun time if you make it!
Third, thanks for all the well wishes about the garage sale we had over the weekend! It went really pretty well...almost entirely sold out by about 11...enough so that we closed up shop and went to lunch (which worked well anyhow since it started raining, lol). We took a few boxes elsewhere after that and ended up with a portion of a single box that is still here (good scrapbooking and homeschooling stuff that I'll find a home for). Woohoo! Wishing I'd taken before and after pictures of the piles, because it feels fabulous to have lightened our own load by so much. Made about $350, which was our target anyhow, so that was nice. ;)
Finally, yes, I'm still going through pictures from Steamboat. I feel like I'm really just starting August, though it's already been really full with vacation, getting the Good Grief Blog off the ground, sorting and purging for the garage sale, gearing boys up for back to school and soccer, and the usual catching up from being gone a week on vacation. :) Whew. This week, then, the goal is to finish the catching up and get ready to start back in to "normal" around here (which includes homeschooling on a more regular schedule and the start of soccer season). (Oh, and I also have a pile of scrapbooking to get to...LOL!)
Hope your week (and mine!) is productive and beautiful!
...please help me celebrate the launching of a new challenge blog! (Click on the image and get over there already!)
As you can read about on the "About This Blog" page over there, this project has been on my mind for quite some time now. I'm so excited to see it come to life and hope you'll help me spread the word...pretty please?
(Incidentally, this concludes my tweaking of this blog for a little while now and my apologies to those who were anticipating a different sort of announcement, LOL. ;) Thanks for your patience!)
