HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now grown) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Comic Con Pictures: Things We Saw (Part 2)

...and then there was the Batmobile...

...and Star Wars droids...

...And a surprising number of Deadpools and Wolverines (these two were actually together, though)...

And we went to a panel on cartoon character voices. It was quite impressive with

  • Jim Cummings (voice of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, the Tazmanian Devil, Darkwing Duck and many more...hilarious guy!),
  • Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman and full of fun stories),
  • Veronica Taylor (voice of Ash from Pokemon...a character the boys were actually quite familiar with),
  • Jennifer Hale (voice of Aayla Secura from Star Wars Clone Wars among many others...another voice the boys knew), and
  • Michael Dorn (Lt. Worf on Star Trek and a voice in several Star Trek video games and others...the boys were most impressed by him, obviously, lol)

Back upstairs, we found a droideka from Star Wars...

...and a vintage Batmobile where you could sit in it for a photo for a mere $20...

And that was a taste of things we saw at Comic Con. ;) Stay tuned for more photos of people we posed with and things we learned...

Comic Con pictures: Things we saw (part 1)

I've posted most of these over on Facebook and haven't edited or anything but wanted to share them here so you can get a taste of the many cool things we saw at Comic Con...

Here's Gandalf at a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit booth. I liked how the lighting was just behind him, lol.

Among many other cool things at this particular booth, they had these knitting kits for Gandalf's hat and dwarf scarves...

And the boys spotted this Borg on display at a Star Trek booth...

...along with some sort of chess game played on Star Trek...(I had no idea, but the boys seemed quite excited about this...)

And we found these movie replica vehicles...here's Indiana Jones' motorcycle...

And Herbie...

More in the next post... ;)

#22 Dress up for Comic Con

Last Friday, I took Asher and Micah to the Denver Comic Con and we had a blast...definitely want to go again next year! As per the boys' requests, we dressed up...as Thor, Frigga and Loki. (For those unfamiliar with the storyline, Thor's the big brother, Loki's the mischief maker little brother and Frigga is their awesome mom.)

We opted to forego wigs, as they were itchy and hot, lol. People still figured it out, though. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that at least two dozen people stopped us to ask if they could take the boys' picture. And a couple people even immediately recognized who I was supposed to be (before I added the name tag!).

And that was #22 on my list. :)

More Comic Con pictures and stories coming soon!

#32 Try a different hair color

Okay, ignore my goofy expression...this was the best photo I managed that shows the purple highlights I got last week. Fun, right? :)

In any case, this was #32 on my list. Bam. :)

(I figured I'd best post a picture sooner rather than later...the color is already starting to fade from as vibrant as it first was...still fun, though! It takes a lot to lighten my hair enough to add color, otherwise maybe next time I'd color even more, lol.)

Father's Day

Thank you, Nathan, for being a true partner in this crazy parenting ride...

  • for taking care of all the science questions,
  • for handling most boy-specific things,
  • for bringing home the bacon (both literally and figuratively, lol),
  • for providing the genetic possibility that the boys won't be too horribly short,
  • for taking a different boy grocery shopping with you each week (to share one-on-one time and to demonstrate sharing domestic chores),
  • for having the same priorities,
  • for taking the time to go to boys' events whenever possible,
  • and for all the other stuff I'm not listing here. ;)

(Here are my guys in Estes Park playing our traditional round of Father's Day miniature golf.)

Love you, Nathan!

Happy Father's Day all around!
