HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

The obligatory Halloween post

Here are Asher & Micah in their costumes before heading to the Karate West Halloween party. Had a blast at that party...with eyeball on spoon races and taping the smile on the Jack o lantern and Halloween bingo (using candy markers) and other fun games.

We then headed for home (picking up a friend on the way so that Noah wouldn't be a non-trick-or-treater by himself, lol). We arrived in time to find Noah finishing up his decorations...adding the strobe light and double checking his spiders.

Then we ate and sent Nathan, Asher & Micah out into the neighborhood. I mostly handed out the candy this year. Is it just me, or are the trick-or-treaters getting older? Seems I had a number of teens. And, fair warning, I give you a hard time if you don't have a costume. ;) Seriously, if you can't tell me what your costume is, you don't deserve any candy. So there. ;) I even had a grown man trick-or-treat without a costume! (I relented and gave him candy, though, because his answer to my costume question was "a parent" and that seems worthy, lol.)

On the other hand, there were some creative costumes. I particularly enjoyed the Jack in the Box (complete with popping out of the box and everything) and the green sumo wrestler (I don't understand why it was green but oh well) and the teen girls who painted their faces pink, had piggie ears and were wrapped in throws...pigs in a blanket. ;)

And, with that, let us now turn toward November...
