HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

One Little Word.

For the last four years, I've joined Ali Edwards and hoards of scrapbookers around the world in selecting a single word to focus on throughout the year. In 2007, I chose create...(click on the layouts to enlarge)...

In 2008, I chose small...

In 2009, it was be. I chose it for its versatility and didn't really make a single layout. Instead, that year, I made my Lists of Me album. (In retrospect, my word that year probably should have been "list," lol.)

Last year, it was home...

For 2011, my word is QUOTE. Yes, I know it seems like cheating. ;) In trying to find a single word, though, I kept coming back to a number of quotes that I liked and wanted to incorporate. So many quotes that I'm in love with right now. :) But, being my indecisive self, I couldn't find any one word that conveyed the varied ideas I wanted to embrace.

So. QUOTE

This way, I'll be able to consider different quotes throughout the year. I'm thinking, actually, that I'd like to create an album of quotes...maybe a quote each week with my thoughts on that quote...advice to my boys. I'll share them here as I can. I haven't made the first layout yet, but the first quote for 2011 is this:

"No great thing is created suddenly."
       -Epictetus (a Greek philosopher A.D. 55-135)

Yup. Gonna start out working on patience...remembering that there's plenty of time to train up these boys to be the men I want them to be. ;) How about you? Do you have a word for 2011?

(And, by the way, happy new year!)

It has been so fun to see how you & the girls have chosen & incorporated your words over the last few years. I like your word this year. I look forward to seeing how this word plays out this year for you. By the way, do you realize today is the first day of a new decade? XOXO
