HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Random Monday musings...

1. Why do people say someone is "chicken" when they're afraid? All the chickens I've met have been pretty *not* afraid, kwim? The chickens at the dairy where we pick up our milk are definitely bold creatures, that's for sure. ;) Do you know scaredy chickens?

2. Do you suppose there's a way to reduce the glare off of rear car windows? I'm tired of being blinded when I drive along and then being stuck and unable to get out of the glare.

3. Seriously. Why don't public bathroom stall doors open OUT instead of IN? I'd really rather not have to straddle the toilet just to shut the door to begin with. Is there a good reason that I'm just missing?

Reader Comments (4)

(1) no clue
(2) definitely highly annoying
(3) cause they were designed by men? or if they have no hook or place to hang your purse....and why is it that changing tables (if they have them in the first place) don't have a hook or shelf for you to put your stuff? I'm always trying to hang on to everything while changing a diaper.
(4) why don't slow drivers get out of the left lane? do they feel safer over there or something?

1....maybe the chickens are scared of the roosters??? I know I would be if I had to poop out eggs every day...
2...no idea, but am also a glare hater...
3...I hate that too, but bet it's in response to a lawsuit where they set the doors up backwards and someone walking to the far stall got whacked in the face...just my .02 and in no way to be taken as an actual legal opinion.

1. beats me
2. there are anti-glare sheets you can put on windows
3. the handicapped stall at our office opens out and is a real nuisance because it won't stay shut and is always standing out at a 90-degree angle and one has to squeeze between it and the counter or move it to get to the regular stall

LOL #3 is my pet peeve too! I understand about the swinging door, so just give us a few extra inches to get in the stall please!
