HELLO

Hi. I'm Amanda...a happy wife and mom to three awesome guys. We've lived here in Fort Collins for more than 20 years and are proud to call it home. Before moving to CO, I worked at a city attorney's office, making use of my law and Master's degrees from Duke. After settling in Fort Collins, I homeschooled my three (now teenage and older) sons and was delighted to experience music classes, soccer, karate, swim team, archery, Science Olympiad, First Lego League, parkour, and climbing (not all at the same time!). From 2005-10, I was also a contributing editor for a national scrapbooking magazine, authoring a book and a couple of monthly columns. From 2009-10, I founded and ran the Good Grief Blog. I enjoy learning new things, spending time with my family, volunteering with The Matthews House, traveling and indoor rock climbing.

Santa in July...

As I continue to procrastinate actually cleaning the house for company, here are some of the many photos from Monday's trip to Santa's Workshop in Colorado Springs. :) First up is Micah, happily tall enough for all of the rides:

Asher remained Nathan's only "big ride" buddy and delighted in riding all of the bigger rides with Nathan:

Noah, though still refusing any of the bigger rides, did relent and go on the ferris wheel with me...twice!

Yes, his face looked like that most of the time...well, when he didn't have his eyes shut whilst grasping the safety bar or when he wasn't bemoaning the fact that he didn't like it. :) Still. At least he was willing to go. (Note, he refused to ride with Nathan, as Nathan rocks the thing...I wasn't allowed to move and had to keep an arm around him at all times, lol.)

Ah, yes, there are many, many more photos of all the fun times and unpredictable weather (it rained twice then cleared up beautifully and then we had thunderstorms that shut everything down for awhile before the sun once again made an appearance, ending the visit on a happy note). During the thunderstorm, Micah finally consented to sit in Santa's lap:

We'd stopped by Santa's house earlier in the day and Asher promptly climbed right up and shared his "list" but Micah wouldn't go near the chair and refused absolutely to sit with him. (Noah insisted that it was silly to do this before November.) But, once reminded of what Micah had wanted to tell Santa and seeing as how Santa's house was nice and dry and it was pouring rain right then, we finally got this shot. (And once he started talking it was hard to get him to stop...not only did the boy share his wish list, but he proceeded to tell Santa about his favorite Wii games and favorite Wii characters and all sorts of other things.)

Oh, okay. I suppose I'll go work on my to do list now... ;)

Inspired by...

In case you didn't know, July is "inspired by" month over on the Prism blog. I've been having a blast making my projects for that (can't wait for you to see the one that'll be up next week!). Meanwhile, I figured I'd also share a couple of way simple layouts I finished last weekend during my Mom's Day Out. The first one is inspired by G2...

This second one is inspired by my desire to not waste leftovers. ;) I've been having soooo much fun using my Silhouette to cut out titles and such but have a hard time tossing the scraps afterward. This layout uses the leftovers and makes me feel better. ;)

Well, that was really all for today. I still haven't sorted through all those pictures from Santa's Workshop and will spend the weekend cleaning and such to get ready for company coming on Monday. (The other best friend, not pictured in my layout above, and her girls are coming to visit!!) So, not the most exciting of weekends, but I'm totally looking forward to next week!! :)

(And, Hos, don't worry...while you're here, we'll take lots of pictures so I can do layouts with you, too...not just M2, LOL!)

Tuesday tidbits.

Hi all. A few unrelated things...

1. Yesterday was awesome. :) We took the boys down to Santa's Workshop near Colorado Springs for the day to celebrate Asher and Micah's birthdays. Got soaked at a couple different points, but it was still fabulous. Took 468 photos so you'll have to wait a bit to see. ;)

2. Just as a heads up, the next few weeks will be busy around here with company coming twice and the getting ready for that. Will still try to post but wanted you to know I'm not ignoring you if I go missing, lol!

3. Today's Prism blog post is by yours truly. Pop on over and check it out, okay? Here's a sneak:

4.
Just for fun, here's one of the layouts I finished at my Mom's Day Out over the weekend. Totally inspired by Elizabeth Kartchner's challenge (scroll down a bit). :)

Okay, that was all for now. ;) Hope you have a fabulous Tuesday!!

Check it out!

Had a fabulous "Mom's Day Out" with some other moms from my local homeschool group today...awesome fun! I succeeded in getting some layouts done (will try to photograph and post soon), had a delicious lunch, and even managed to do pretty minimal damage in the shopping department! Yes, that last one can be looked upon as either good or bad, lol, but the point was that I had a blast and felt proud of myself when I left. ;)

When I got home, I found this lovely opportunity just crying out for some attention. So get on over to the Prism blog and check it out, okay?

Quick addendum...

If you managed to read the "Be Humorous" layout below, you'll see the boys' recent responses to the "what do you want to be when you grow up" question (hey, I really should make a list just of all the different answers I've gotten over the years!). In any case, Micah, having watched a Berenstain Bears dvd earlier today that dealt with town politics, was going on about wanting to be mayor. So. I asked him if that's what he wanted to be when he grows up. His reply?

"No (indignantly). When I grow up I want to be a teenager!"

Honest. This kid. Man he's a keeper! :)
